Bamboo Bending Lotus Installation
Towson University, 2022
Led by artist Adrianna Morgan, this art installation was commissioned by the Asian Arts and Culture Center at Towson University. It revolved around creating a bamboo forest where visitors can enter a gallery space surrounded by tall stalks of bamboo and experience the Diwali tradition of lighting diyas. In the middle of the space we bended stalks of fresh bamboo in the shape of lotus flower, a flower significant in many east Asian cultures. Each petal of the flower held several empty diyas, during our gallery opening/lighting ceremony electric candles were handed to visitors entering the space. Each visitor could then place their candle into one of the empty diyas eventually causing the dark installation space to glow with light.
